What's Full Mouth Rehabilitation?

As the name implies, full mouth rehabilitation refers to rebuilding and/ or replacing all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth. Full mouth rehabilitation combine esthetics with the knowledge of restorative dentistry to enhance the health, function, and beauty of the mouth.

Who Requires a Full Mouth Rehabilitation?

Many people have dental problems throughout their mouths that must be treated with a vision of a final result that improves both function and esthetics. These patients may present multiple missing teeth, multiple teeth with large fillings that are failing or showing decay, cracked or broken teeth, poorly worn out teeth due to bruxism (teeth grinding), or other habits.

There's also a group of patients who were born with conditions similar to Ectodermal Dysplasia, Ameliogenesis, or Dentinogenesis Imperfecta who will need large restoration of their teeth. These patients may be candidates for a full mouth rehabilitation.

Treatment Options for a Full Rehabilitation

In general, any dental treatment that affects all teeth in the mouth is called full mouth rehabilitation. After some oral cancer treatments the patient might require a special type of full mouth rehabilitation that not only involves the replacement of missing teeth but also the restorations of missing structures of the oral cavity.

The treatments can include onlays, crowns, veneers, dental implants, and or dentures that will give not only a "smile makeover", but better chewing efficiency. In some cases, other specialties like orthodontics may also be employed to produce the best possible outcome.
